It would seem that Joe Alwyn would also like to remind us that he can still make the whole place shimmer.

The actor and noted Taylor Swift ex-paramour made his first public appearance since news of the duo’s split in April at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday at a dinner hosted by Celine artistic director Hedi Slimane at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Alwyn wore a tailored black suit, an artfully undone satiny blush-colored button-up shirt, and a gold chain to the event. The accessory that pulled it all together? It’s hard to say whether that would be his black shades or the smirk he donned in photos. 

Swift and Alwyn were romantically involved for about six years, and even co-wrote some of Swift’s tracks together, with Alwyn using the pseudonym William Bowery on his contributions. 

As of late, Swift has been headlining her sold-out Eras Tour and dropping bombs like saying her life “finally makes sense” and that she’s the happiest she’s ever been, not to mention the triumph that is that little jazz hands variation she drops in the choreography for “Bejeweled,” and the whole new Matty Healy relationship she’s hard-launched. Alwyn has maintained his usual low-key (lack of) presence, until now. 

While the rumor mill continues to churn about Swift, Alwyn, the reasons for their breakup and what’s next for each of them, one thing seems to be sure: Joe Cannes and will have adventures of his own.
