The Sebae Clownfish Amphiprion sebae is a more rare species to encounter. It is typically only found with the Haddon’s Carpet Anemone Stichodactyla haddoni.

This is one of the most often misidentified clownfish in aquaria. It is often incorrectly labeled as a Clarkii Clownfish Amphiprion clarkii because they have a similar colour pattern. However the Sebae has an elongated, more slender body. Its color can be distinguished by its second white band tipping towards the back on top and extending onto the dorsal fin, and also by its yellow anal fin. True Sebae Clownfish are not as easy to come by.

A 30 gallon or larger aquarium is desirable as is a host anemone such as Bubbletip Sea Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor). Sebae Clownfish are very hardy and durable fish making them a perfect addition for the novice or seasoned aquarist. Sebae Clownfish is a good candidate for a reef aquarium.

They are easy to breed in the home aquarium. The females will be the largest of the pair, and two fish will usually stay close to each other in the aquarium. These fish are egg layers and will deposit the eggs on a flat surface, and defend the eggs from other tank mates. The eggs will normally hatch in 6-11 days depending on the temperature. The fry must be reared in a separate aquarium on a diet of rotifers then baby brine shrimp.

Sebae Clownfish will eat almost anything it is fed, but the diet should include meaty food items such as chopped shrimp and herbivore preparations.
