This South America species is a treasure to own! One of the most desirable of the Catasetums, it produces dark brown to black flowers that have a bright, ivory green lip. The 6-12 flowers are around 1.25" in size and produce a spicy fragrance.
In shaded medium light, it will produce to 10-18 male flowers, and in bright high light, 3-6 green female flowers. The pollination of Catasetums is interesting: the male flowers have a trigger mechanism that launches the pollen onto the pollinator.
Fertilize every third time you water during the growing season, during which mature plants are flowering and producing a new growth. Once the leaves drop off in the fall, stop fertilizing and only provide enough water to keep the pseudobulbs from shriveling.
