Common Name Lietze's Stanhopea [German Orchid Collector 1800's]

Flower Size to 4" [to 10 cm]

A medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte from the southeast Atlantic Forest of Brazil in the states of Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, Sao Paulo, Parana' and Santa Catarina at elevations of 100 to 800 meters in very humid and shady locations with a distinct dry season in the winter with oval, strongly ribbed and furrowed with age carrying a single, apical, plicate, coriaceous, lanceolate, acute, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring in Brazil on a pendant, basal, racemose, 6" [15 cm] long, few to several [2 to 5] flowered inflorescence with large, chartaceous, triangular, acute bracts.
