Common Name The Boat-Shaped Gongora

Flower Size 2 1/4" [5.5 cm]

Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, this robust, medium sized, caespitose, epiphytic, warm to cool growing species occurs in wet montane forests at altitudes of 550 to 1200 meters with ovoid-pyriform, longitudinally sulcate, obtuse angled pseudobulbs subtended by a few scarious, sheaths and carrying 2 apical, plicate, broadly oblanceolate, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, acuminate, plicate, leathery, stiff leaves that are conduplicate below into a channeled petiole which blooms in the fall on a basal, 16" [40 cm] long, pendulous, many [35 to 45] flowered infloresence arising on a mature pseudobulb as a new one appears and carrying fragrant, long-lasting flowers.
