Dear connections, I am delighted to share my first post. I would like to begin this journey by advocating for one of the most significant yet abased sector. Our world is currently going through a massive phase change - from traditional methods to AI (Artificial Intelligence). Everyone wants to get in that change and want to update according to the changing world. They want to learn new methodologies to fit themselves and not have "FOMO" or the Fear Of Missing Out syndrome in this Gen Z world. But the sad reality is that they underestimate anything that is related to soil, farming, or in general to agriculture.  Agriculture is one such sector that will always have its importance in this world, irrespective of the changes or inventions that occur in the future. The world can't survive on just electricity, air, water, and AI. Their fuel comes from the soil and plants that the agriculturists grow. It is undervalued despite its fundamental importance to society and the global economy. On the contradictory, many engineers and several other professions have chosen to make a shift to agriculture. This mostly occurred during the pandemic period. This budget is now increasing. Why? Because with time they have understood that the only path to sustenance and longevity is directly connected to the growth and production of food. Agriculture has diverse options to choose from and work. Agribusiness, agricultural engineering, and biotechnology are some of them. The field has accelerated in technology be it precision farming, genetic engineering, or data analytics and statistics. The world is now more focused on sustainability and environmental conservation and agriculture allows us to be in the forefront in these. Resilient farming practices can be developed which can help in climate change mitigation. Studying agriculture allows individuals to contribute to solving real-world problems related to feeding the growing global population and malnutrition.  And at last, for those who have a passion for nature, the environment, and food production, studying agriculture can be personally fulfilling. Working in a field that aligns with one's interests and values can lead to a more satisfying and purposeful career. Pursuing agriculture as an undergraduate course offers a range of opportunities to make a positive impact on global challenges and contribute to sustainable and resilient food systems. In this new year and in the following ones, a safe bet for the future is to invest in agriculture, we need to feed a growing population, with greater demands, for this it will be necessary to resort to highly technical and diverse agriculture. Traditional techniques could become obsolete, however I believe that they can still play an important role if they are used in combination with new technologies and new farming systems, in this way it will be possible to increase production by optimizing increasingly scarce natural resources, respecting a threatened environment and offering healthier products to consumers. The current agricultural model requires large investments and the transition towards a new mentality on the part of the farmer, financial resources must be optimized and their activity professionalized in accordance with new technological needs, which include the digitalization of production processes, the application of field science, this will lead the farmer to be a main manager in food production. The role of professionals in this new way of growing and producing food will be extremely important. Taking into account the above, I have a very interesting new proposal to share. This proposal intends to promote the important role of the professional in the agricultural industry. It proposes the incorporation of technology, field science, transparent information and specialized support to agri-food sector. The interconnectivity and diversification in the services of this initiative can optimize degraded agricultural systems at all levels and convert them into sustainable food production models. The immediate future will require a sustainable, resilient, powerful, efficient and technical agriculture. During one of my agritech samvaad events with my dear mentor friend Jagadeesh, Jagadeesh made an important point: As Jagadeesh put it, “Every solution we are giving to the farmer is very short in duration for that crop. We like tell him how much more yield he will get at the end of the crop and solve his problem. If you look from farmer’s perspective, he is not looking at one crop. He is looking at how finally his life is going to be at the end of three years. Will I get a higher price is all he is asking.” Here is the fundamental curse of being a Fullstacker in Agritech: You are pouring jet fuel of venture capital into a system in which the weakest link, the farmer, is looking, in all probability, at a longer time horizon than your patient capital. There is a deeper reason if you probe into a farmer’s relationship with time. If you ask a farmer why is he continuing to sow when the prices fell over a particular year, he would most likely have a theory that over three years, the prices would come back to equilibrium and he is, therefore, willing to take the risk. The point here is not to defend the status quo. Yes, we need disruptive innovations to try out all kinds of marketplace experiments. But what about the time horizon? Can you play really long-term games when you are run by jet fuel? Agriculture, from my limited observation, is a peculiar domain where Nature respects Time more than money. If you invest money into a factory, the result is far more certain than if you invest money into a farm, because, the infrastructure in the former is created to respect money more than the latter. This might sound strangely ironic in a blog that is titled, Agribusiness Matters.
