Werewolves
Werewolves
With vampires in Nightlife, zombies from the beginning of the series, and now werewolves, I've got a feeling we're just one step away from going full out The Sims 2 Transylvania.
Before getting you too excited on the idea of combing fur and howling at the moon, let's go over what werewolves do as far as the game is concerned. Werewolves, you'll remember, are creatures of the night. Accordingly, they get a MAJOR boost of energy at night. Specifically, their energy tops off no matter what it was. It's like getting a good night's sleep instantly.
There really aren't any downsides to it, although you may occasionally lose control of your Sim for a moment to howl at the moon. Also, unlike vampires, you don't have any time limit with your werewolf. There are only three problems, and I'm having to dig for them, here.
The first problem is that your Sim's thumbnail picture will become his werewolf form for all other Sims' relationship screens. You'll see it on the neighborhood screen too; I already find females with any facial hair unattractive, so seeing one with her full face totally furry is a major turn-off. Not really a big issue, but still one to know.
The second problem is that some Sims may not want to be a werewolf. Or, perhaps one of his friends or family members won't want him to be. For example, when I first installed the expansion, I headed into my Falkon family, and sure enough, Pete wanted to be a werewolf. However, Pyro and Stephanie both had a fear of "Family member becomes werewolf." Technically, Pete isn't in Stephanie's family (they're related by marriage, not blood), but I still didn't want to deal with it.
The final problem is that stated energy boost doesn't last the whole night. Vampires, for example, have perfect Energy meters at night at all times; werewolves, conversely, lose the energy at the standard rate. If you're really stingy with your energy, you might be able to stay up perpetually, something even vampires can't pull off.
In all, there's really no reason not to have a werewolf. Having that instant boost of energy will especially help single Sims have fun out on the town, and it gives newly created Sims a chance to level the playing the field by devoting extra time to studying job skills. Also, werewolf Sims can be called on at night, unlike normal Sims that get all mad when you call them at 2 AM. Really, they didn't need that sleep, did they?
To have a werewolf in your neighborhood, you'll have to work a bit for the first one. First, you'll need a house that has a lot of trees. And when I say "a lot," I mean like two dozen. Literally. Just spend every cent you've got on the pine trees (or any kind of tree really) and place it somewhere on your lot.
Once you have enough trees, you may get a wolf or two to show up on your lot. Now, just because a Sim may have the "See Wolf" Want and it succeeds doesn't mean you've seen the appropriate wolf. Whether the "See Wolf" Want is broken, we're not sure; it just seems to succeed if a large dog is on the lot regardless if it's an actual wolf or not.
The specific wolf you're looking for is one with glowing eyes. In my game, I had a dark brown wolf by the name of Benny; your mileage may vary. The telltale sign either way is green glowing eyes. When you see the green-eyed wolf appear, drop ANYTHING you're doing (including sleeping) and greet it. Then, do everything you can to befriend it: play with him, feed him, give him love, whatever it takes. Once you get the relationship with the wolf up to about +90/+80 (which will take many sleepless nights), the wolf will nibble you. Your Sim will freak out and become a werewolf immediately.
From then on, in order to start spreading lycanthropy is a matter of a simple social interaction. Whilst a Sim is in werewolf form, simply select him, then interact with another Sim and select "Savage." Your werewolf will attack the target, and turn him into a werewolf a fight. Simple as that. If you don't use cheat codes, simply just always make sure you have a controllable werewolf or two around to keep spreading the fangs.
If you want to cure a Sim of his condition, you just need to make a call and spend some green. Pick up the phone and call the Obedience Trainer, regardless of whether you have a pet. When she comes over, you can tell a Sim to interact with her and purchase a potion. Buy it, drink it, and you become normal. (If you have Nightlife installed as well, you can call the matchmaker and buy a potion from her as well.)
