Donald Trump’s 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Tops $1 Million At Auction

Following

Former President Donald Trump’s personal supercar, a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster, recently sold at auction for $1.1 million, far surpassing the price most Diablos fetch when put up for sale (typically between $350,000 and $500,000 at auction, depending on the specifications).

According to a social media post, the all-wheel-drive supercar got a cheer from the crowd at the Barrett-Jackson auction when the bidding topped seven figures, with the hammer falling soon after.

The V-12 powered Lamborghini is finished in Blu Le Mans with a black interior. The blue color had to be special-ordered by the real estate mogul at the time. A small plaque visible when the driver’s door is open reads “Donald Trump Diablo 1997.” The car was not sold by the former President, who let it go back in 2002. The seller at the auction was not specified.

The Diablo was a rare bird, er, bull, in the U.S. at the time Trump owned it, with only 132 coming to America from 1997 to 1999. Lamborghini often named its supercars for fighting bulls made famous for facing down matadors.

The Diablo was produced just after the legendary Countach, and was the first Lamborghini produced when Volkswagen had control of the boutique automaker. It featured a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-12 that made about 500 horsepower and came with some new tech for Lamborghini at the time, including a new all-wheel-drive system for improved handling and updated fuel injection.

Trump’s Diablo had just over 15,300 miles on it at the time of the auction and appears to be largely stock, with a 5-speed manual transmission and a removable roof panel that gave it the Roadster designation. Top speed for the Diablo was specified as 202 mph by Lamborghini, with a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds.

The buyer of the former President’s Lamborghini was not disclosed at the auction.
