It's been decades since I've played with Barbies, but I still find myself drawn to iconic dolls any time I pass the toy aisles, especially since they've become so much more diverse. It's been even more decades — six, to be exact — since Barbie made her debut, making an indelible impression on generations to come, and sparking nostalgia in former collectors like me. So it's no surprise that Mattel has teamed up with a beauty brand to celebrate Barbie's 60th anniversary in a way that may feel a bit more age-appropriate to adults than the dolls of our youth.
Pür is launching the prettiest, sparkliest, pinkest collection we've ever seen from the cruelty-free makeup and skin-care brand. "Barbie is such an iconic figure that many of us have grown up with over the years, so we wanted to create a really fun and inspiring collection that furthers her mission through the use of makeup," Tina Thompson, Pür's VP of marketing and innovation, told Popsugar. "Barbie naturally sparks that inner girly-girl within each of us, so we wanted superglam shades that were combined with wearable colors to maximize the use of this collection."
And that's exactly what Pür did, especially with the Endless Possibilities Signature 12-Piece Pressed Pigments Palette. In addition to neutrals like a satiny medium brown and a pearly cream, it's full of undeniably fun shades like a sparkling bubblegum pink, a shimmery bright purple, a radiant cerulean blue, and matte hot pink not unlike that of the famous Barbie Dream House.
The collection also includes several shades of Iconic Lips Signature Semi-Matte Lipstick: Timeless (a rosy red), Legendary (a hot pink), Inspire (a deep berry), and Classic (a nude pink). Top it off with Girl Gloss Signature High Shine Lip Gloss for a reflective gleam, and use the Forever Flawless Signature Complexion Brush to apply one or all of the shades in the Dream Glow Signature Highlighter Palette. And even though Barbie's lashes are painted on, yours can be even more dimensional with the Barbie Doll Lash Signature Cruelty Free Pro Eyelashes.
This isn't the first time we've seen a Barbie cosmetics collaboration in recent years. NCLA launched Barbie nail and lip products in November 2018, and a few months earlier, Sephora Collection launched Barbie-themed makeup in Europe.
But as for the Pür x Barbie anniversary makeup collection, you'll be able to get one, two, or all of the products — Barbie's been known to inspire collections, after all — next Friday, August 2, at purcosmetics.com.
