About this Item
Handmade grey paper covers. See my pic. Sewn binding. Apologies my Japanese + google translate doesn't help me with identification of publisher! Vol 6 = Japanese block printing at the beginning and end of book. Illustrations of games, horsemanship, mythological figures + random sketches by Hokusai. Colour woodcut captions in Japanese. Trimed to image border. Pages handmade paper. The art manual was begun in 1812, there were 12 volumes to 1820. The first book was published from 1814-1834. Hokusai Katsushika 1760-1849. On the top of the underside of the front cover at the top in english: Manga VI 1816 Hokusai. The following page in small neat writing is To James? from ? March 12th 1923. The illustrations are amazing and full of action. I am sure that I have not done with book justice, due to lack of Japenese knowledge, so if you do have any questions, do email me. Condition: The thread binding has broken in places. Front cover loose. Main central bulk of book holding well, back cover becoming loose. Page corner creases. Some age marks. Colour of illusts are not as vibrant as possibly they once were. However, all still visible. Generally worn because it has been well loved and used. But it is still all there remarkably and quite a rare item. Seller Inventory # 003808
