About Sempervivum Tectorum (4 inch)

Sempervivum Tectorum is a plant native to southern Europe, known for its green leaves with purple tips and toothed margins. It forms a closely arranged rosette from downy leaves. It tends to produce lateral shoots from the roots. In Rome, this plant was considered a symbol that could protect buildings.

How to care for Sempervivum Tectorum (4 inch)

Sun/Temperature: Sempervivum Tectorum thrives in full sun, which enhances its compactness and color. However, during the hottest summer days, it benefits from some shade to avoid sunburn. It grows well between 68-86°F. Wintering temperature is 60°F so it's best to move it indoors to protect it from cold temperatures.

Soil/Watering: Use loose, fertile soil with excellent drainage and aeration for best results. A suitable mix includes equal parts charcoal, vermiculite, and river sand (1:1:1 ratio). Charcoal and vermiculite help retain nutrients and moisture, while river sand ensures proper air circulation. Use the soak and dry watering method. During the hot summer leaves require more water for evaporation, so foliage must be sprayed frequently. Waterlogging in pots must be avoided or it will cause root rot. If the temperature is below 50 ℃ should control watering to maintain the potting soil dry.

Pot: Choose a planter with a wide surface as Sempervivum Tectorum is larger in diameter. Ensure the pot has drainage holes for optimal water drainage.

Propagation: Propagate Sempervivum Tectorum by offsets. Cut off the side shoots with sterilized scissors, dry them in a ventilated area and plant them in a dry pot.

Fertilizing: In spring and autumn, apply a diluted, well-rotted liquid fertilizer every month, avoiding splashing it onto the leaves.

Winter shipping

We insist on shipping succulents to our customers all year round. However due to the extreme winter weather, although we pack succulents with as much protective material as possible, plants are still at increased risk of frost on their way to colder areas. We highly recommend adding one 72-hour heat pack to your order or you can request a hold on the package until it warms up.

Please note that The Next Gardener is not responsible for packages that suffer cold damage without a heat pack. We cannot control the weather. Order at your own risk.

Hawaii, Alaska, and Other US Territories

Fortunately, shipping is available to Alaska, Guam, and other U.S. Territories. However, due to numerous factors beyond our control, including customs checks and shipping delays, free shipping to Hawaii and Puerto Rico is not an option. And we can not provide the 14-day quality guarantee for orders going to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The buyer will assume all risk of damage when a delivery is delayed. We appreciate your understanding.
