Sedum spurium 'John Creech'

Sedum spurium 'John Creech'

Commonly known as Caucasian stonecrop, this plant is a low-growing, sprawling, mat-forming sedum that is grown as a groundcover. Native to the Caucusus, it is an evergreen plant that typically only gets to be 2" tall but spreads to 18-24 inches. Used in rock gardens or trough gardens, it is dense enough to choke out weeds while being quite ornamental. Pink flowers appear above the foliage in fall. John Creech, former director of the U.S. National Arboreteum, reportedly collected this plant at the Central Siberian Botanic Garden in 1971. Hardy to zone 3.
