Description

Ophioblennius atlanticus, commonly known as the Redlip blenny, is a medium/large blenny. A variable species which can be anywhere from reddish-brown to almost black. Some have very clear marking on their head while others are almost entirely one colour. They’ve red lips which are very pronounced in some while others have the red more internal and only show it when they open their mouth. They’ve two long and sharp canine teeth which they use to bite when they feel threatened.

These fish are usually found in shallow rocky and coral reef areas with a lot of wave action. They can best be kept alone or as a mated pair. They feed mainly on algae, detritus and small crustaceans and can best be fed with high quality algae flakes and pellets but will eat live and frozen food like copepods, artemia and small Gammarus as well.
