NEW YORK — Annika Pergament, a familiar face on “Mornings On 1,” will be leaving NY1 to become the new national anchor for Spectrum News.

The promotion was announced Thursday during NY1's morning program.

“The network has grown to the point that there are local Spectrum channels now, like NY1, in more than 30 different cities and the company is now going to launch a national newsroom,” co-anchor Pat Kiernan said. “And in looking for our national news anchor, they came knocking on our door.”

Pergament said the transition is an “exciting time” not just for herself, but for the company.

“There's so much going on, on a national level, that's important to all of us and we just feel that the time is right for us to be covering those stories,” she said.

Pergament joined NY1 in 1994 covering politics and later City Hall and the Manhattan beat. She briefly left the station in 2001, but returned in 2002 as business anchor and producer of the Fortune Business Report.

Pergament will remain based in New York City.
