10 Craft Ideas To Do With Thomas And Friends Coloring Pages
Here are ten cheap, fun, and creative things you can do with your completed coloring pages!
10. Party Decorations
Get your little one(s) involved in the party planning action by having them color in my Thomas & Friends sheets and using them as decorations on the big day.
You could cut out multiples of the same illustration and string them up as a banner, use them as place settings, or make cute popcorn holders by rolling them into cones.
However you opt to use them, your child can have the pride associated with contributing to his or her party, in addition to simply enjoying their day!
9. Bookmarks
For this craft, you will likely want to shrink the size of the illustrations down a bit so that you can fit all of Thomas into a book.
Once you do that, you can have your child color him in. Then, you could paste him onto a rectangle of construction paper or poster board.
8. Thomas Finger Puppets
For Thomas finger puppets, you will need an illustration of Thomas that is his face, head-on.
(You might also want to shrink him down a bit to fit small fingers!)
Have your child color in Thomas however they choose, and then cut him out carefully, following his outline.
You’re then going to take the Thomas that you just cut out and place him down on a piece of construction paper. Trace an outline and cut that out, too.
Then you’re going to staple the two pieces of paper around the edges – a good four or five staples should do the trick.
Your child can then slide his or her fingers up between the two pieces of stapled paper and play Thomas to their heart’s content.
7. T-Shirts
For this craft, you will need a Cricut machine – or a deft hand with scissors.
Have your child select the Thomas illustration they’d like to wear and work with them to color it in digitally. You’re then going to print it onto iron-on vinyl.
Here is where you’ll use the Cricut; feed it into the machine, and it will “read” the design and cut it out perfectly.
Or, if you have the skills, you can cut it yourself by hand.
Then, all you need to do is iron (or press) it on. You could also do hoodies, patches on pants, or even canvas totes.
6. Party Invitations
I find that the best way to go about this craft is to shrink the image, using your computer, to a fourth of its regular size.
Place it in the bottom-right of the overall page and print it out. Then you’ll fold it in half, and fold it in half again, so that the illustration is on the “front page.”
You can get your little one to color in the pictures and add text, like, “You’re Invited!” on the front and all the party info on the inside.
5. Play Props
To make the play props, you’ll print out the illustrations that show Thomas & his friends in whole.
Have your child color them in and then paste poster board or construction paper to the back. Cut them out carefully.
From there, the children can play with them as-is, or add craft sticks to the backs of the figures for easier handling (or to put on a theatrical performance with them, perhaps?).
4. 3D Thomas The Trains
For this craft, you’ll need glue and toilet paper rolls.
You’ll print out two of each Thomas & Friends sheet for the illustration you want to use, and you’ll want to pick ones that show Thomas in his entirety.
For one page, you’ll have the kids actually flip the sheet over and then trace, using a black sharpie, the visible outline from the front of the page.
Color in both sheets, but only the “back” or traced side for the one. Cut out both Thomases.
You’re going to glue the Thomases to either side of a toilet paper roll, lining them up so that they’re complementary to each other.
3. Puzzles
Puzzles are a fun craft, especially if you have a classroom full of kids.
Print off any of the Thomas & Friends printables and have the kids color them in. Then you’ll have them draw, in black Sharpie, puzzle-shaped pieces directly over the illustration.
Have them also cut out the shapes.
Then they can swap puzzles!
2. Wrapping Paper
Another terrific use of these Thomas & Friends pages is for economical and cheap wrapping paper!
Just have your child color in the illustration and, once they’re done, wrap up the present inside, carefully taping as they go.
1. Thomas Masks
Depending on the size of your child’s face, you might need to “blow up” the illustration a bit.
You’re going to print it off and then have your kid color in Thomas’s face and any other part of him that might be included, such as the cab.
Cut him out carefully and poke two holes on either side of Thomas’s face; you’re going to loop string, ribbon, or yarn through the holes to make the mask stay up.
