Given the title and the fact that it stars Bradley Cooper, I wish this was a very different kind of film ohkayyyy. Instead we get a unique horror movie with a somewhat unfortunate name that’s much more style than substance but boy does Ryûhei Kitamura deliver on that style angle. There is a shot towards the end of Leslie Bibb moving between subway cars that is just perfectly done. Speaking of Leslie, she is such an underrated actress. She fucking kills it in this and she barely got so much as a “thank you”.
The story is kind of underdeveloped and the ending doesn’t quite explain as much as it needs to, but it does a good enough job and…
For a perfect example of why practical effects are better than CG watch this film.
WHAT.THE.F&%K!
(Infomercial voice-over voice) Do you like films that start of really good and then get worse as they keep going? Do you want to see really famous actors making really poor choices, in life and in cinema? Then look no further!
Where do I even start? How could Bradley Cooper have looked at this script and thought, yeah sounds like a great idea. Or maybe he only read the first half before he committed? I thought I was gonna get a sweet slasher film here. Instead I got.....actually I don't even know what the frick I got. This is definitely going on my films to only watch once list, if I had a films I wish I never saw…
Hooptober X: Now With 20% More Horror!
“I’ve got a train to catch.”
Bradley Cooper could’ve just minded his own business, banged his hot wife, eaten his bland Spam, and avoided all of this. But NOOooOo let’s get obsessed with the creepy butcher guy and stalk him around town. Dumbass.
Clive Barker writes some weird, nasty shit. It’s often transgressive, psychosexual, and violent to the nth degree. It fucking rules is what I’m saying.
It’s a stone-faced Vinnie Jones butchering subway passengers is incredibly gory ways, what more do you want? He’s a menacing antagonist that exudes this intimidating presence at all times. Even with no dialogue, his robotic mannerisms and cold eyes tells you everything you need to know…
#SlasherSaturday
This is a pretty wild slasher with some over the top gore moments, some of which are really great and some of which the CGI blood looks not really great. Lots of fun stuff here though. Maxwell Silver Hammer make some absolutely crushing kills with that mallet. There’s some gruesome eyeball action we haven’t seen since The Last Matinee, too. After one night on the Midnight Meat Train, even our Vegan Photog Bradley Cooper couldn’t resist a little Midnight Snack on Leslie Bibb’s rump roast. )) 👀 I honestly didn’t expect this to have some A-list ass eating. My second time this year, after Deep Water. I would have liked more Brooke Shields, I think this would have been an awesome project for…
Although somewhat underwhelming since the source material is a banger of a short story, Midnight Meat Train is an enjoyable splatfest flick, and I t’s kinda neat that briefly in the late 2000’s there were a few Barker adaptions put to screen—none of them reaching the peaks I’d like but still doing a decent job displaying those Imaginative Barker visuals.
There is some practical gore in this, and it looks good... BUT imagine how vicious it would’ve looked during some of the more CGI (which still looks good) heavy bloodbath kill scenes.
Some random thoughts about The Midnight Meat Train:
When Vinnie Jones doesn’t talk, he’s an ok actor: I don’t hate Vinnie like a lot, but he is pretty evil in this flick.
Bradley before the huge Hangover: Look at Bradley Cooper acting all crazy and psycho and other adjectives to describe his ascent into madness or high-stakes photography.
Never get your friend to go play Scooby-Doo detective with you when your friend has only had 3 lines in the movie: Yeah, can we say Red Shirt Jobber.
Leslie Bibb should be a bigger star: Leslie is really convincing as Bradley’s girlfriend. She’s almost been a star for years. She’s my MVP.
Never ride the subway after midnight: I knew this guy…
I grew up watching this little British-German horror gem known as Creep. It was one of those findings I stumbled upon while changing the channel and I became enamored to the point I stopped whenever they play that movie, which normally was around midnight, so I guess that somehow shows my dedication. Around the same time I started seeing TV spots about this Vinnie Jones-starrer film and not knowing the name of Creep, I always confused the two.
Fast-forward almost a decade plus later and I finally watched this movie that has been haunting me for years. And right of the get-go, while the level of nostalgia puts the Christopher Smith directed movie above this one, this was still a…
The true horror here is just how annoying a white dude from New York with a camera can be
