GTA 6: RAGE engine gets important updates

Game developer and publisher Rockstar plans to use the 9th iteration of its Rockstar Advanced Game Engine or RAGE for the upcoming title. According to a report by Rockstarmag, their sources revealed that the game engine will feature improvements in game physics which include the weather, water, vehicles, and more. It also brings improvements to in-game time management, making it more realistic along with improved quality of rendering has improved too. There have also been some enhancements made to the AI which improve the interactions with NPCs, police, and more.

In terms of water, Rockstar has worked towards developing a new technology for water physics for their title. The development of this technology included a whole bunch of research and a team of knowledgeable professionals who were well versed with concepts such as “programming" and "real-time physics simulation" along with the "understanding of memory padding considerations, linear algebra, trigonometry, matrix and quaternion mathematics.”

Moreover, the report adds that water will play a huge role in the upcoming title. It is reported that GTA 6 may even introduce surfing as an activity to perform in the open world. Talking about the vehicles, there has been a major increase in polygons coming from GTA 5, which helps the car to deform more authentically and make accidents and crashes look much more realistic. This increase will also help with car customization as players will not only receive much more freedom to customise their car cosmetically but also mechanically, which will help their car adapt to environmental changes like a storm.

Focusing on the light and weather in GTA 6, the game will use physically simulated light which will make physics-based rendering possible. Through this, players will see more authentic reflections and light sources in the game. The change in weather will also be more impactful on the player with the changes affecting the environment as well as the gameplay.
