An old favourite of mine, “The Midnight Meat Train” is seriously awesome. Filled with gore and bizarre ingenuity, this dark and disturbing film really is a one of a kind experience. It gets mixed reviews but overall it’s more liked than not. Many do complain that this movie falls apart at the end, I never really felt that way though, to me, for the most part, it felt like as good an explanation as any…though certainly imaginative! And, to be fair, it’s not as if the movie takes a sudden sharp turn and changes completely, it’s not as if there weren’t hints along the way that things were going to get strange
“The Midnight Meat Train” focuses on Leon Kaufman, a struggling photographer who is drawn to dark and violent subject matter. And one night he begins obsessively following a man who turns out to be a lot more of a threat than he could have ever imagined. This mysterious man is a psychotic butcher who ritually slaughters all the unfortunate passengers on the very last subway, each night. As Leon’s obsession grows, and even as he learns more and more about just how dangerous he is, he still can’t seem to stay away from this man.. until it’s too late. Like I said, this has been a favourite of mine since I first saw it years ago, it’s a viciously bloody story of murder and obsession culminating in a twist ending that’s just brilliantly inventive, if, perhaps, a little “much”, in the opinions of some… Highly recommended, especially to fans of Clive Barker.
