The L-13 Blaník is a two seat training glider that was designed by Karel Dlouhý of VZLÚ Letnany around 1956, and is the most numerous and widely used glider in the world. The L-13 was developed as a practical glider suitable for basic as well as aerobatic instruction and cross-country training. This design concept was combined with true and tested technology: metal construction, NACA laminar profiles and many standard-issue components from the aerospace industry of the time.

The Blaník entered production in 1958 and quickly gained popularity as an inexpensive, rugged and durable type, which was easy to fly and operate. In the cross-country role the Blaník achieved many two-seater world distance records during the 1960s in spite of having only fair performance. It was widely adopted in Eastern Europe and was exported in large numbers to Western Europe and North America, even being used by the US Air Force Academy.

The HobbyKing™ Blanik L-13 lives up to its namesake of being a easy to fly glider, with a low landing speed, and good aerobatic performance. This plug and fly model comes with a brushless electric motor and folding propeller pre-installed, however it also includes a molded foam nose piece which accurately matches the scale profile for those wanting to fly it as a pure glider.

The airframe of the Blanik is all molded EPO construction making it quite strong, and resiliant. Compared to many scale gliders the Blanik has large control surfaces which makes it highly aerobatic, and very easy to control. Landing can really be slowed down by deploying the wing flaps for precision landing on the monowheel. Each of the two large wing panels features rugged carbon spars the full length of the wing, while a very long wing joiner piece holds them together. The wings flex much like you would expect from a large glider, though are quite strong. The front cockpit area is large so it can accept a wide variety of battery sizes depending on what configuration you want to run.

As a slope model it works very well, tearing it up with the best of the moldies, but without the moldie price tag. Since the Blanik is all bolt together construction and arrives plug and fly configuration, you can be ready to go in about 30~45 minutes. As a power model it has performance to spare. Power up, climb to altitude and the propeller folds back in just a matter of seconds. The Blanik would make a great ALES model even.

We have had a lot of fun with this model, and so will you. Its scale looks with sporty performance at a great price.

Cheap, fast delivery and PNP ! Pleasent glider, light and thermal good, do some fun aerobatics. Wings factory flexed down, easy to fix. Beware of the motor mount. I didn"t screw it again and the motor pulled out at first full throttle. My fault ! Flaps can go down and up. i mixed them with the aileron and now rolls are good. One wing seems heavier than the other, i have to fix it. Fun for the size but less solid than others for beginners.

Got this beauty week ago. Impressive. 1hour from the box and in to the skies.
Steady flying aircraft, more then enough power to get needed altitude.
NO NEED FOR 4CELL Li-Po.
1st flight 35 min and only 3 min total using of throttle.
IT'S A GLIDER, NOT HOTLINER OR FIGHTER!
Easy landing with or without flaps.

Not sure what I did wrong but this plane flew like a pig. The ESC was bad out of the box and once I got that traded out the motor was bad. Replaced that with one I had on hand just like the ESC and took it out for a maiden. What a PIG! CG was way off and barely got it landed. Moved the CG forward and not much better. Was using a 3S 2200 and added weight to the recommended balance point and still no better... Would have been better off taking my money and playing the lottery. Not Happy at all. Would try and send it back but the last time I did on something I purchased it took 6 weeks. The plane ended up in a death spiral and came apart... Best I can do now is add it to the wall as a reminder not to but items like this...!
I am an experienced pilot with several 1/4 scale planes... quality control needs some help!

Both wings are bent down for a 1cm or so. I think this is not big issue - it will fly anyway... What is wrong here is the motor mount - three short wood screws is really BAD JOKE. Fortunately, after replacing this screws with bolts and nuts and drilling wholes through the motor mount, the motor keeps in place good. As the motor mount has no offset, I had to put some washers to get motor a bit down and right.

Arrived double boxed, well packed and in good condition. Maiden flight from a field was very impressive, good shallow glide and enough power from the motor to get high up. The carbon fibre spars in the wings do a good job. There's a few niggles but on the whole a good buy. A few points: 1. The servos leads for the ailerons and flaps should run over the top of the wing and not underneath as may appear to be the case. 2. Likewise mine came with the elevator servos wire threaded through the top of the fuselage and exiting above the wing seating - this will interfere with the wing seating - rethread it and the rudder servo lead through the bottom of the fuselage. 3. If you want to remove the motor then use the provided hex key through the holes on each side of the fuselage nose. 4. Take care when removing the canopy. The magnet is at the front so pulling at the back will damage or break the retaining lugs. 5. Again the canopy - having to open it at the front puts your hand in the path of the propeller, should it start up then injury is very likely - fit a good isolation switch. 6. There are no suggested control mevement ranges, try 1/2" on ailerons & elevator for starters then setup as you wish after that. 7. I left fitting the so called "tip tanks" to ends of the wings until last thing in the build, they have a high potenrtial for getting damaged in the hangar otherwise! 8. There's only 2 screws per control horn provided, I fitted four. 9. The servo setup with channel splitters

This plane flies really nice. At the start You have to push the elevator down. After a few seconds Youll be almost in the stratosphere due the huge Prop.
Aerobatics can be flown with ease, servos work reliable.
There are but some improvements to do, in order to avoid problems with ESC and batt overheating. there should be created a hole on every side of the nose - ESC gets really quickly hot. The engine needs to be adjusted with 2 nutscrews (acessible with preared holes ).
You can expect some problems with fixing of spinner and prop, so I recommend to make a flat surface on the crank of the engine - the will be the nut better fixed.
After all these corrections youll have a perfect flying, impressive plane with scale - look.

I ordered this plane, used the required Battery and the CG was right on. Well just to say the ESC died and the plane crashed. Now HobbyKing will not even send me the correct ESC that came with it. Watch out for BAD ESC. Also the customer service was terrible. I will never buy again.

Easy assembly and great flying plane. 40 amp ESC is too small. Watted this with stock prop on 4 cell at 49 amps. ESC got hot enough to thermal and shut down on 2nd flight. Luckily I was able to get it down without killing it. Still a great value at this price point!!
