Hi, I'm Andrew and I’m just a simple zoology student and crustacean researcher from Ohio. This blog centers around animal IDs so feel free to send me any unknown species (and its location) that you have and I will take my best shot at IDing it! I also occasionally post random zoology/animal factoid things.

Disclamer: none of the pictures are mine unless stated

Giant Pangolin

(Manis gigantea)

is one of my favorite animals and a member of the family manidae (pangolins) found in equatorial Africa from West Africa to Uganda. As you may of guessed by their name they are the pretty large growing up to 4-5 ft long making them the largest extant pangolin. Like all pangolins they are armored by scales made of keratin, and they have large claws. Pangolins are nocturnal and live off of tearing open anthills with their large claws it then eats the ants with it’s long tongue like an anteater although they are not related. although they are listed as least concern their populations are declining due to habitat destruction and hunting.
