Found in Taiwan in montane broadleaved forests at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with a creeping rhizome giving rise to an ascending below and erect terminally, terete, reddish brown, glabrous, leafy towards the apex stem carrying 4 to 5, loosely arranged in a rosette, oblong to ovate-oblong, deep green, with a distinct silvery white line on the midrib, with or without thin side stripes, chartaceous, shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a teeminal, erect, terete, greenish purple, peduncle glabrous, rachis and bracts ciliate, successively few, to 12 flowered inflorescence with ovate, margin usually ciliate, towards the apex, , shorter than the ovary floral bracts carrying, resupinate, well spaced, partially open flowers.

This may be a peloric mutant of Z goodyeroides, more research over a large population needs to be done to confirm or deny this hypothesis.
